Varun Gandhi likely to move SC over hate speech FIR

March 26, 2009 15:37 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Lok Sabha candidate from Pilibhit Varun Gandhi is likely to move the Supreme Court on Friday to seek a stay on the FIR lodged against him for making inflamatory speeches in his constituency, sources close to him said on Thursday.

They told PTI that Varun had not yet received the orders of the Allahabad High Court which had on Wednesday dismissed his plea for quashing the FIR against him.

Varun is likely to get the papers on Thursday and move the apex court on Friday, they said. The anticipatory bail granted to him by the Delhi High Court will also expire on Friday.

The FIR was lodged against Varun in Pilibhit after CDs showed him making inflamatory speeches against the minorities surfaced. The Election Commission has already censured 29-year-old Varun and suggested that BJP should not field him as acandidate.
