Jailed BSP leader has assets worth over Rs 5 cr

Mukhtar Ansari, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from Varanasi, and his wife are crorepatis, but the better half of the jailed leader has almost double the assets and a luxury car in her name.

As per the affidavit submitted with his nomination papers before the District Electoral officer, Ansari has claimed that he has no cash in hand while his wife Afshan has Rs 3,75,000 in her possession.

He has a deposit of Rs 5,73,561, but Rs 11,80,433 is deposited in the accounts of Afshan. The jailed leader also has an LIC policy of Rs 1,90,000.

As per the affidavit, Ansari himself does not have any car in his name while his wife is the owner of a luxury car. He has three gold and two diamond rings besides two gold chains worth Rs 2,25,000. But, his wife has ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh.

The Varanasi candidate has agricultural land worth Rs 1.50 crore and a house worth Rs 5 lakh at Ghazipur while Afshan is the owner of non-agricultural land worth Rs 1.57 crore besides 17 shops. She also owns a hotel worth over Rs 1.25 crore.
