The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday warned that attempts could be made to disrupt Lok Sabha polls in the state from across the border, but those will be foiled.

"We are well aware of the threat that is posed to elections. I am reviewing the situation on a regular basis with my two security advisors and taking whatever steps are necessary," Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told reporters. "We do understand that attempts would be made to disrupt the elections and we will do everything possible to render those attempts unsuccessful," he added.

Noting that elections have always been an attractive target for disruptive elements, he said, "We will do everything possible to recreate an environment that was available to both candidates and voters during the recently held assembly elections."

On infiltration from across the border, Abdullah said, "Infiltration at this time of the season is nothing new. Whenever snow starts melting after winter, infiltration attempts increase. Our aim is to scuttle the attempts on the Line of Control itself."

Abdullah said the situation in Pakistan has a direct bearing on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. "When the situation in Pakistan is alright, it is good for us. I have said earlier also that the we have to bear the brunt when situation in Pakistan is bad," he said.

On the revoking of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Abdullah said, "The decision to invoke AFSPA was at that time taken by a political government. The decision to do away with it will also be taken by a political government."

To a query about the ongoing protest of people at Khaigam in Pulwama district in support of their demand for removing of CRPF camp from the village, Abdullah said, "I don't make announcements until the situation so warrants."

The Chief Minister said there was no difficulty at all on seat sharing with Congress in the state. "There is no deadlock on seat sharing. We have almost finalised the list of candidates."
