Ending several days of suspension, the Election Commission on Monday formally announced the allotment of "Rail Engine" as the election symbol to the Praja Rajyam party of Telugu star Chiranjeevi.

At the same time another new political party Lok Satta of former Indian Administrative Services officer Jayprakash Narayan has been allotted the symbol of a "Whistle".

The allotment of the Rail Engine to the PRP came days after the Supreme Court ordered the EC to allot common symbols to three new regional parties including Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam of Tamil star Vijayakant.

The allotment of Rail Engine to PRP was formally announced by the Chief Electoral Officer Subba Rao in Hyderabad, bringing cheers to the party's leaders and supporters.

Chiranjeevi and other party leaders were keen from the beginning to secure the Rail Engine for their party.

Meanwhile Chranjeevi's brother-in-law and film producer Allu Arvind has filed the nomination papers from Anakapally Lok Sabha constituency in coastal Andhra Pradesh. However the event was marred by PRP workers' protest who gheraoed Arvind's vehicle demanding tickets.

Another senior PRP leader T Devender Goud has also filed his nomination paper from Ibrahimpatnam assembly constituency in Ranga Reddy. This is an addition to the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency where he has already filed the nomination on Saturday.

Chiranjeevi has announced that apart from Tirupati, he will also contest from Palakole assembly constituency in West Godavari district. But he will not be contesting from any assembly constituency in the Telangana region.
