Actor and sitting Congress MP Govinda on Monday hit out at his rivals in the party and said they created problems during his tenure.

The actor, who defeated former Union minister and BJP candidate Ram Naik in the 2004 elections, said, he had conveyed his unwillingness to contest the LS polls to the party high command.

"Some party men had problems working with me and created obstacles. I conveyed to (Congress president) Sonia Gandhi that I would rather campaign than contest in elections," he said, addressing a press conference at his suburban residence.

"Sonia believed in me despite opposition from within who tried to malign my image," he added.

The actor said he worked towards solving problems related to railways, slums and water supply in his constituency but was a victim of a bakwaasbaji (nonsense) spread by others.

"Nobody has appreciated the good work I have done in the last five years," the MP from Mumbai North constituency said.

When asked if he would campaign for actor Sanjay Dutt, who is aspiring to enter the Lok Sabha on a Samajwadi Party ticket from Lucknow, the Congress leader said, "Sanjay Dutt is family and if he asks I will definitely campaign for him."

"However, it did not mean that I would leave the Congress," the actor-politician said.

In the delimitation process, the Mumbai North seat, which Govinda won last time, has been partitioned with a part of it being added to the newly formed Mumbai North West constituency and another to the Palghar segment.

Govinda also extended his support for actress Nagma, who is aspiring for a Congress ticket to contest from the Mumbai NorthWest constituency.

"She is a newcomer and I will definitely help her," the actor said adding in our film industry, we pay more attention to the thoughts that are behind the words of newcomers rather than just what they say.
