The Election Commission has decided to brief the media at 4 pm on all days till May 16, the counting day -- to avoid controversies and misinterpretation.

The full bench of the EC took this decision after three days of deliberations.

A deputy election commissioner will be available at EC's committee room to answer the media's questions. All clarifications will be answered and the EC will share information, if any.

The revival of the media briefing was necessary as the constitutional authority has for the first time -- came under severe attack from the media and also from opposition parties including L K Advani.

It all began with one of the three Election Commissioners sending an SMS to his source soon after a full bench meeting. The news on a hard hitting words to a political party not to field a particular candidate in the elections was flashed on all media outlets.

The other two Election Commissioners began to get hundreds of phone calls from the media to verify the news.

The BJP has been attacking the EC without naming anyone. But it is clear that their targets are Navin Chawla and also S Y Quraishi.
