Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday, alleged the Congress was influencing the Central Bureau of Investigation to get clean chit for its leaders involved in different cases as the party had realised that it would not return to power."It seems the Congress has realised that it is not going to return to power. Therefore, it is using its influence to get clean chit from the CBI for its leaders involved in different cases," she told an election rally in Dehradun.

The agency gave clean chit to some Congress leaders involved in the 1984 anti-sikh riots, the Bahujan Samaj Party supremo said.

Coming down heavily on the Congress, she said though the party was at the helm of affairs most of the times since independence, poverty, corruption and unemployment had only increased during its rule. The BSP leader said issues like unemployment and poverty needed a permanent solution. By giving only Rs 100 to a member of a poor family under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the poverty could not be eradicated, she added.
