Varun moves EC against BSP

May 12, 2009 16:46 IST

BJP's Pilibhit candidate Varun Gandhi has complained to the Election Commission against some supporters of a BSP candidate, who allegedly distributed liquor and money to locals ahead of polling in the constituency tomorrow.

"We have learnt from reliable sources that liquor is being carried and distributed from trucks in violation of the election code of conduct," Gandhi's personal secretary Anand Chaudhary has stated in a complaint to the poll panel on his behalf.

Chaudhary has alleged that the liquor was illegally stored in the house of one Bachchu Lal Verma of Barkheda village in Pilibhit.

"This liquor is being given to voters as an incentive to influence them to their side," Chaudhary alleged in his complaint.
Copies of the complaint were also faxed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, Returning Officer, Pilibhit and

Superintendent of Police, Pilibhit by Gandhi's office. Chaudhary told PTI that Gandhi had also received reports of money being distributed to voters allegedly by supporters of BSP candidate Ganga Charan Rajput. The BSP government in the state had not taken any action despite complaints, Chaudhary said.
