NSA Narayanan hosts 'farewell' party

May 13, 2009 17:10 IST

On Tuesday evening, National Security Advisor M K Narayanan held a 'farewell' party for the senior officers of India's security apparatus at the Indian Air Force mess near India Gate, New Delhi.

When less than 72 hours left for the results of election 2009, Narayanan arranged a get-together for all senior security officers that served under him since January 2005. The chiefs of the Intelligence Bureau, the Research and Analysis Wing and the Central Bureau of Investigation along with their senior officers were present at the function. Also present were the defence secretary and the home secretary who praised Narayanan for his leadership as NSA.

However, some officers who attended the meeting were finding it difficult to decipher the meaning of the farewell organised just before the election results. Two days back, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Principal Secretary T K A Nair has also given one such party to his colleagues.

Interestingly, most of the bureaucrats present in the meeting debated about the election and possible outcome and many of them thought that whatever the figures, the Congress will be able to manage to form the government again.
