The Asom Gana Parishad on Friday said it will stick to its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party and it will support none other than L K Advani as the next prime minister of the country.
"There is no question of helping the United Progressive Alliance or the Third Front in forming a government. We want L K Advani as the next prime minister of the country," said AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary.
The AGP had fought the Lok Sabha polls in Assam in alliance with the BJP but is yet to formally join the National Democratic Alliance.
"We have not joined the NDA yet. The AGP steering committee will take a decision on our strategy on May 17," Patowary said.
However, Patowary had participated in the May 10 NDA rally in Ludhiana. The AGP has two members in the outgoing Lok Sabha and several exit polls projected that the regional party will get at least four seats out of Assam's 14 seats in the LS.
"The AGP-BJP alliance has swept the polls which will be reflected in Saturday's results," he said. The AGP is contesting in six constituencies while the BJP has fielded candidates in eight seats.
