Stunning defeat hit TDP, PRP in Andhra

It was only the media which continued to maintain a vigil at the residences of TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu and PRP President Chiranjeevi.

There was some activity at the office of Telangana Rashtra Samiti, thanks to the camp organised by the party to save its candidates from being lured by the rival parties. But when it became clear that there will be no demand for its MPs and MLAs,  the gates were thrown open and all the candidates and newly-elected members went back to their homes.

TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao and his son K Taraka Rama Rao was also present in the camp.

Taraka Rama Rao was elected to the state assembly from Sricilla with a margin of around 700 votes.

The Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi breaking his silence late on Saturday evening alleged that Congress won the elections with the help of money power. But he said that he was accepting the verdict of the people.

He urged his party workers and supporters not to be disheartened by the results. "Struggling for the cause of the people is more important than winning the elections," he said. The results show that the people are with us, he said.  He vowed to focus his attention to strengthen the party in the future.

Chiranjeevi who till Friday maintained that the PRP was coming to power with 160 seats was looking shocked by the turn of the events. He lost one of the two assembly constituencies where he had contested.

TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu said that he will analyse the causes of the defeat of the party soon.
