AP: YSR reinstates Yadav as DGP

Last updated on: May 21, 2009 21:04 IST

In the first major revamp in the police department after Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government's return to power, Director General of Police A K Mohanty has been shunted out to bring back the controversial senior IPS office Shyam Sundar Prasad Yadav.

Mohanty was appointed the DGP by the Election Commission during the election process, removing Yadav for violation of model code of conduct by making remarks in the praise of the chief minister.

The government issued orders appointing Yadav as the new Director General of police, making him the first officer in the state's history to return to the top post for second time.

The government has also transferred the Inspector General of Police Visakhapatanam Range A B Venkateswhara Rao and the East Godavari district superintendent of police Charu Sinha.

Mohanty, who is handing over the charge to the additional DGP Girish Kumar later this evening, reacted to the government orders saying he was happy to serve where ever the government posts him.

"I am very much satisfied with my work as the DGP for two months during the election process", he said.

"I don't see my transfer as a vindictive step," he said.
