May 23, 2009 21:32 IST

The Bhartiya Janata Party's parliamentary board, which met on Saturday evening, decided to defer the decision on Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuvan Chand Khanduri's resignation, till the state-assembly by-polls on May 28.

Khanduri had resigned in the wake of the party's poor performance in the state in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.

The meeting was attended by BJP president Rajnath Singh, leader of opposition L K Adavni, senior leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Thavar Chand Gehlot, and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

"The parliamentary board met this evening and decided that it should not rush into taking a hasty decision. We are considering the matter," Jaitley informed mediapersons on Saturday.

Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, former state chief minister, is being considered as the front runner for the chief minister's post since a majority of the Members of Legislative Assembly are backing him.
