Kapil send legal notice to Bindra

Former India cricket captain Kapil Dev today slapped a legal notice on ex-BCCI president I S Bindra for 'tarnishing' his image, built over 25 years of dedicated cricket.

In a statement on Friday night, the coach of the Indian team said, ''For more than the last 25 years, cricket has been my life and I have given my everything to cricket. The reputation built over 25 years has been tarnished by one irresponsible statement (of Bindra).

''I am going through an emotional hell. I haven't thought of the financial consequences to my reputation. All that I can say is that the loss to me both emotionally and financially would be incalculable.''

Bindra had on Wednesday night told CNN satellite channel that it was Kapil who had offered 2.5 million rupees to former all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar for playing poorly in a Singer Cup match in Sri Lanka in 1994.

In the statement, Kapil clarified: ''This one statement made by Mr Bindra has been an earth-shattering experience for me.''

About the action he proposed to take, the world's second highest wicket taker said the matter has been handed over to his lawyers and he will be guided entirely by them.

''The action to be taken and the time frame within which it could be taken will be decided by them (his lawyers). For the present, a legal notice has been sent to Bindra by my lawyers and the ball is in his (Bindra's) court.''
