Paes-Bhupathi beat JensensShailesh SoniFrench Open champion Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi moved into the second round of the $2.95 million Masters Series being played in Cincinnati, United States. The Indians, seeded sixth in the tournament, defeated the wildcard American pair of Luke Jensen and Murphy Jensen 6-7(3-7), 6-0, 6-1 in their first round match on Tuesday. The win comes after three matches the Indians lost after winning the French Open. They lost in the semis of the Queen's Club event and then had two first round losses in the Wimbledon championships and in last week's Montreal Masters series. Paes/Bhupathi lost the first set in a tie-breaker, but the came back strongly and cruised along in good form to take the next two sets with ease. The Indians are drawn in the upper half with top seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Todd Woodbridge and in the same quarter of the draw as fourth seeds Jiri Novak and David Rikl, who last week won the Montreal Masters. Paes/Bhupathi will face another American pair of Justin Gimelstob and Alex O'Brien in the second round. Gimelstob/O'Brien defeated Sebastien Lareau of Canada and Sjeng Schalken of The Netherlands 7-6(6), 6-3 in the first round. In an interesting result of the day, Boris Becker, returning to action for the first time since July 1999, partnered Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic. However, they could not get past top seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Todd Woodbridge. Becker/Ivanisevic lost the match in just over an hour 3-6, 2-6.
