Sipaeya in semi-finals

Tai Wei Liu led Chinese Taipei's march in the Asian junior tennis championships, upsetting second seed Amanjot Singh, as the visitors booked three places in the boys' singles semi-finals in Delhi on Thursday.

The trio of fourth seed Wang-Cheng Hsieh, fifth seed Liu and Yu-Da Shieh were joined by top seed Sunil Kumar Sipaeya in the last four.

Liu broke Amanjot's service in the very first game and was in command throughout in the hour-long battle winning 6-1, 6-2.

Sipaeya reached the last four when eighth seed Nishank Mishra pulled out with a sprain in his left leg.

Sipaeya was leading 5-2 in the first set when Mishra conceded the match. He will clash with Hsieh, who beat Sratha Saenguwann of Thailand in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Wei Liu will take on compatriot Yu-Da Shieh, who too rallied from a set down to oust sixth ranked Anuwat Dalodom of Thailand 2-6, 6-1, 6-2

. In the girls' singles, unseeded Sanaa Bhambri, the only Indian to enter the semis, won a tough battle to beat Samrita Sekar 7-5, 6-4.

Bhambri will play Korea's Da-Jung Hong, who went past fifth seed Megha Vakharia in a gruelling encounter at 6-7 (4/7) 6-7 (7/9).

In other quarter-finals, Chin Wei Chan of Chinese Taipei defeated Diana Julianto of Indonesia 6-3, 6-2. Pichaya Laosirichon of Thailand won a tough first set and then sped through the second to win 7-6 (10/8), 6-1 against Isha Lakhani.
