Humpy in the environs of leadersWith restored strengths, Koneru Humpy (2484) defeated Hungarian GM Zoltan Varga (2506) in her seventh round and crept into fifth position with a score of 3.5 points. If she continues the same in the remaining 6 rounds, her chances of winning the tournament are bright. The Hungarian GM Ferenc Berkes (2541) and Yugoslavian GM Zlatko Ilincic (2521) share the first position with 5 points each. Unbeaten Hungarian IM Attila Czebe (2491) lost to Ruben Felgaer of Argentina and dropped to the third position from first with 4.5 points. IM Bakre Tejas (2446) of India drew against Hungarian GM Jozsef Horvath (2551) of Hungary and consolidated his position with 4 points. In the eighth round, Humpy will play with black against IM Adam Horvath (2490) of Hungary.
