Humpy draws but keeps lead

India's World junior chess champion Koneru Humpy maintained her lead in the First Saturday Grandmasters tournament in Budapest, Hungary, despite being held to a draw in her fifth round match on Wednesday.

Playing black, the 14 year-old Andhra girl drew against GM Liuben Spassov of Bulgaria.

The half point swelled her tally to four but forced her to share the top spot with IM Peter Horvath of Hungary, who won his match against Muhamad Al-Sayed of Qatar.

In the sixth round Humpy plays with white against Woman Grandmaster Trang Hoang of Bulgaria, who has 2.5 points at the end of the fifth round.

Attila Jakab of Hungary is in second place with 3.5 points.

The First Saturday GM tournament, which began on October 6, ends on October 17. Twelve players from various countries like Hungary, Yugoslavia, Syria, Qatar, Vietnam, Bulgaria and India are participating.
