Humpy regains leadWorld junior chess champion Koneru Humpy shot back into the lead in the First Saturday Grandmasters tournament in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday. Playing black pieces, the 14-year-old Indian ace beat Hungarian International Master Peter Horvath in her seventh round match to move to the top of the 12-player field with five points. However, Humpy has to share the lead with Peter and IM Jakab Attila, also of Hungary. Humpy employed the Nimzo Indian defence and sealed the fate of her rival in 47 moves. With the emphatic win, the Andhra girl is with reach of collecting her second norm for the men's GM's title. She needs to get 3.5 points from the remaining four games. Humpy can fancy her chances in the next four rounds when she playes Al-Sayed Mahamad from Qatar in 8th round and Fogarasi Tibor from Hungary in 9th round. She will face tough opposition in her 10th round match against IM Jakab Attila of Hungary and GM Todorovic Goran of Yugoslavia in last round of the tournament. The First Saturday GM tournament, which began on October 6, ends on October 17. Twelve players from various countries like Hungary, Yugoslavia, Syria, Qatar, Vietnam, Bulgaria and India are participating.
