India win Davis Cup tie against Japan 4-1

India defeated Japan 4-1 in the Asia-Oceania Group I Davis Cup tie, winning both the reverse singles matches in New Delhi on Sunday.

Leander Paes defeated Japan's Gouchi Motomura 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in one hour 37 minutes in the dead fifth rubber after Rohan Bopanna had given India a winning 3-1 lead earlier in the morning.

Bopanna defeated Jun Kato 7-6 (7/5), 6-4, 6-4 in one hour 54 minutes for his first win in Davis Cup.

India will take on New Zealand at home in the next round from April 4 to 6.
