Taliban, Al Qaeda fighters in PoK

While the Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing the precise role played by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence in helping 22 top commanders of Al Qaeda escape from Afghanistan, Indian intelligence agencies are keeping a close watch on the developments in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

"According to our sources some 50 odd Taliban and Al Qaeda members have been camping in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir near Muzzaffarabad. Though they have not made any move towards the international border so far, we are keeping a close watch on their movements," a top intelligence official told rediff.com.

He said the ISI with the help of the Pakistani army had evacuated hundreds of Pakistani army regulars from the besieged city of Mazar-e-Shariff in helicopters.

"It seems that the Americans knew about the operation and it had their tacit approval. Northern Alliance troops were given strict instructions not to fire at the helicopters while they carried out the rescue operation," the sources said.

Some of the foreign terrorists who managed to sneak out during the earlier stages of US bombing of Afghanistan, managed to reach their countries of origin.

Twenty-five of them were Egyptians, while the rest hailed from Jordon. These terrorists were arrested as soon as they landed in their respective countries.

Some Sudanese also managed to escape and board a plane for Sudan. But there was no confirmation whether they reached their destination.
