Eight foreign aid workers held by the Taleban in Afghanistan for preaching Christianity were freed on Thursday, senior US officials said.
The aid workers -- four Germans, two Australians and two Americans -- were airlifted to Pakistan.
There is, however, confusion whether the aid workers were released by the Taleban or they were rescued by US commando forces.
US President George Bush in a statement from Texas said the aid workers were rescued by American forces and he was proud of his soldiers.
