US Marines seize airstrip in Kandahar

In the first major seizure in Afghanistan by American troops, around 500 Marines on Monday took control of an airstrip in Kandahar.

The first wave of Marines seized the airfield and encountered no immediate resistance, Pentagon spokeswoman Victoria Clarke said.

"There were no difficulties," she said.
