The United Nations has condemned the terrorist car bomb attack at the entrance of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly that killed 38 people and said it underscored the need to eradicate terrorism.
In a statement through his spokesman, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said he "utterly condemns the terrorist suicide bombing that occurred in Srinagar".
"This act of senseless violence underscores the need to eradicate terrorism from whatever quarter," he said.
"The tragic incident once again underlines the need for a political solution to the longstanding dispute over Kashmir," Annan said.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, he stressed that all states should refrain from providing any form of support, active or passive, to terrorists groups as demanded by the Security Council.
