Continuing daylight strikes for the second consecutive day, US fighter jets on Wednesday bombed Kandahar, the stronghold of the Taleban, to flush out Saudi exile Osama bin Laden, but the terrorist mastermind, calling upon Muslims around the world to join a holy war, threatened attacks on American interests 'everywhere'.
US fighters dropped three bombs at about 0815 IST near the airport in Kandahar, even as US President George Bush declared that the allies have absolute supremacy over Afghanistan's airspace and Arab countries backed his campaign against global terrorism but refrained from making any mention of the air strikes against the Taleban.
Meanwhile, urging the Muslims around the world to join the holy war (jehad), bin Laden's spokesman Suleiman Abu Ghaith told Qatar-based Al Jazeera television network that 'the American interests are everywhere, all over the world. And every Muslim has to play his real and true role to uphold his religion as his nation'.
Referring to the September 11 suicide attacks in the US, Ghaith, in a pre-recorded message broadcast on Wednesday, said "There are thousands of young people who look forward to death like the Americans look forward to living."
In an effort to starve the terrorists of funds, the United Nations ordered member states to freeze the funds and assets of 27 outfits, individuals and firms linked to bin Laden, including the Pakistan-based Harkat-ul Mujahideen.
Continuing its attacks on Afghanistan for the fourth day, the focus was mostly on targets around Kandahar city and its airport - location of key Taleban defence installations - where 300 close associates of bin Laden are believed to be taking shelter.
Kandahar is also the hometown of Taleban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, who barely escaped when his residential complex was targeted on Tuesday.
Taleban anti-aircraft guns fired at about 'four to five planes flying around the city', Taleban officials said.
