As US and British fighter jets began pounding Kabul afresh on Thursday, a huge fire blazed near the Kabul airport.
The air-strikes began at 0330 IST and US jets carried a series of sorties. Taleban forces responded by firing anti-aircraft guns.
The forces, once again, appeared to target Taleban frontlines on the hills surrounding the Afghan capital.
Helicopters and special forces troops are aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, awaiting orders to launch an attack, possibly a ground offensive.
