Saudi warns citizens against supporting Osama

Osama bin Laden's native country, Saudi Arabia on Thursday warned his supporters that sympathizing with the terrorist mastermind was not in the nation's interests and that they could face 'amputation' from Saudi society.

"Don't forget that these people have abused your country too," Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz told the official SPA news agency in the eastern city of Damam.

These people were 'ill and cannot be accepted in Saudi society, even if they were part of us', he said.

"Unfortunately, they are counted as Muslims, but Islam dissociates itself from them," he said.

"Some organs of the body may become ill, but the sick organ is amputated," Aziz warned.

Osama bin Laden belongs to one of Saudi Arabia's wealthiest families, which made its fortune in the construction business.

In the past few days, a number of Muslim clerics have spoken out against the United States-led attacks on Afghanistan to flush out Osama and destroy his Al Qaeda terrorist network.
