White House looks forward to Vajpayee visit

Hours after Secretary of State Colin Powell wound up his whistle-stop visit to New Delhi, the White House said President George W Bush was looking forward to the visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Washington.

Vajpayee would make a working visit to Washington on November 9 and "President Bush looks forward to discussing ways to strengthen the anti-terrorism campaign and to foster regional stability in South Asia," White House spokesman Ali Fleischer said on Wednesday.

"The visit is an important opportunity to reaffirm the United States' interest in building a broad-based partnership with India and to promote closer cooperation on a range of security and economic issues that advance common objectives," he said.

Wrapping up his visit to India, Powell said in New Delhi on Wednesday that the war on terrorism included the terror directed against India.
