A lone United States jet streaked across the Kabul sky launching a late-night strike on Afghan capital on Wednesday, an agency report said.
The report said the warplane circled the city for five minutes before dropping a bomb.
"It could have been inside the city limits, but we could feel the pound of the explosion a long way away," the agency reporter was quoted as saying.
The report said the Taleban did not respond to the attack with anti-aircraft fire.
CNN reported that US jets were also attacking targets around the Taleban stronghold of Kandahar and the western Afghan city of Herat.
Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said more terrorist attacks were 'a distinct possibility'.
"The threat of further terrorist attacks remains very high," FBI chief Robert Mueller said at a meeting of the US Conference of Mayors.
Referring to the spate of anthrax cases Mueller said, "Clearly we are deeply concerned about the growing wave of anthrax attacks."
However, he said there was no evidence to link the anthrax cases to the September 11 terror attacks.
