Shoora suggests that Osama leave voluntarily

The two-day meeting of the Shoora, the grand Islamic council of ulemas (clerics) of Afghanistan, has suggested that the spiritual leader of the Taleban, Mullah Mohammed Omar, persuade Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden to leave the country on his own.

The Shoora has, however, not set any time frame for this to happen except to suggest that it be done at the earliest. It has, however, opposed any move to hand Laden, a suspected terrorist mastermind, over to the United States.

The Shoora wishes Laden to leave the country voluntarily and find some other place for himself. But they have also opposed any move to force him to leave the country.

Expressing grief at the events of September 11 in the US, the Shoora urged Washington to observe restraint while continuing with its investigations into the terrorist attacks.

It also urged the United Nations to conduct its own investigation into the attacks.

The council, however, warned that if in spite of all this the US attacked Afghanistan, it would call for a jihad (holy war) against the aggressors.
