These are hard times, and more and more people are getting edgy, especially law enforcement agencies.
The public in Canada is equally being advised to be careful and not make off-the-cuff remarks, not even as a joke.
One word 'bomb' has landed Sinan Safety Acar, 21, a musician from Australia, in Toronto jail for 60 days.
He was going through the security check at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto on September 16, when he was asked by the security guard whether he was carrying anything in his bag.
Acar laughed and according to reports said: "Just a bomb, that's all."
It didn't take much time for a dozen police officers to arrive at the scene.
He was handcuffed and taken to an airport holding cell, where he was subjected to a body-cavity search also.
He was later transferred to nearby police station, where he spent the right on a steel bunk with no blanket.
Acar was produced in the court on September 19, and the judge, who sentenced him to 60 days in prison, told him that he should be ashamed of himself.
"Have you been asleep? Are you aware of what's happening in the world?" the judge is reported to have asked Acar.
Normally an offence like Acar's would result in a warning or possibly a fine.
Not these days, not after September 11 when everyone is under pressure.
"I'm against what happened at the World trade Center," Acar was quoted as saying.
"But I didn't do anything. I'm just a guy who said something stupid," he said.
