Jesrani contesting clerk of courts post in Delaware

Florence Murray Jesrani is contesting for the post of clerk of courts in Delaware County, Ohio as an independent.

The election for the post in scheduled for November 5.

"It is predominantly a Republican district, but we hope she has a fair chance of victory considering her background and experience," said Preet Jesrani, husband and campaign treasurer of Florence.

The Republican Party has appointed incumbent Jan Antonopolis as its candidate to the post.

Antonopolis' straight fight with Florence, who comes from a family of lawyers, is considered a strong contest.

In addition to legal experience Florence has seven years of project management and marketing experience.

She has a masters degree in education and an MBA from Case Western Reserve, Weatherhead School of Management - Cleveland, OH.

Preet was also a student at Case Western, where they met and married in 1998. They have an infant son -- Emmett.

Florence has worked as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, Lions Club and Cystic Fibrois Foundation.

She is being endorsed by the Carpenter's Union and the United Steel Workers of America.

"The clerk's job is non partisan. So we thought it more appropriate to contest as independent," Preet said.

If won, she promises to provide full Internet access to the Clerk's legal records and allow direct electronic filing of court case documents.

All the Indians in the area are aware of her candidature, Preet said. There is a large Indian population in the city of Powell, which is part of the county.
