After playing the eldest daughter-in-law in Anupam Kher's multi-starrer directorial debut, Om Jai Jagadish, Mahima Chaudhry plays Preity's elder sister in Dil Hai Tumhaara. She agreed to the role even after being told Preity plays the author-backed character.

"The role was a challenge and I was confident of the script and the director (Kundan Shah). It is different from what I have done earlier. Right from Pardes to Lajja, I have played aggressive characters who get up and take a stand. In DHT, I play a peacemaker between my mother and my sister. My character is soft-spoken. She does not like unpleasantness. "
