India gears up for counting of votes

Who will rule India next five years? Will Manmohan Singh return? Will L K Advani take over? Or any other leader?

The answer wil be known tomorrow. At 8am, the counting will begin.The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting -- both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Elections are held to 543 seats of the 545-member Lok Sabha. A party or a coalition needs to have at least 272 seats in the Lok Sabha to stake claim to form a government. Hectic parleys are on to woo parties -- big and small.

Along with the Lok Sabha, elections to the 294-member assembly in Andhra Pradesh, 144-member Orissa assembly and 32-seat Sikkim legislature were also held.

The counting exercise will take place at 4,260 counting halls in 1,080 centres across the country and will be managed by nearly 60,000 personnel.
